Introduction

Grad Subotica is a local media company that covers a wide range of news and events. Their aim is to provide information to the general audience.

The aim of this case study is to design a mobile app for a local media company, which will allow readers to see what is happening in their town through their smartphones. The app should provide a seamless reading experience to the users, and should be easy to use and navigate.

Research

Research

Prior to commencing the design process, I conducted an in-depth research to gain insights into the current trends and user expectations within the media industry. The research revealed that the target audience primarily consisted of older individuals who faced challenges with the previous app due to its confusing user experience. Consequently, there was a clear need for a more user-friendly interface that would cater to their needs. Additionally, my study identified the rising popularity of mobile apps for information gathering, with numerous media companies already offering such applications. These findings underscored the importance of developing a well-designed local news media app to meet the growing demands of the audience.

Old App

The previous version of the Grad Subotica App featured small images and offered limited content on its home page, which resulted in a less engaging user experience.

user-friendly

The New Grad Subotica App includes large images and text for improved usability and a user-friendly experience, especially for older users.

Dark mode

I have introduced a new dark mode feature. With an increasing number of users adopting dark mode on their phones, it offers benefits such as battery savings and reduced eye strain.

Design phase

Once I had conducted my research and gathered user feedback, I began the design phase of the project. The following steps were taken during the design phase:

  1. Gathering inspiration: I thoroughly studied apps from renowned media companies worldwide. By carefully analyzing their best features, I curated a unique blend that captures the essence of their excellence.

  2. Sketches: I created rough sketches of the app's user interface, which allowed me to quickly explore different design ideas and layouts.

  3. Wireframes: Using the sketches as a guide, I created wireframes that showed the app's layout and navigation. This helped me to refine the design and identify any potential usability issues.

  4. Mockups: Once the wireframes were approved, I created high-fidelity mockups that showed the app's final design. These mockups included details such as color schemes, typography, and images.

  5. Prototyping: I created a prototype of the app, which allowed me to test the app's usability and functionality before development began. This helped me to identify any issues that needed to be addressed before the app was built.
